VIRTUAL WHALE WATCH

The VIRTUAL WHALE WATCH allows the scouts to simulate the experience of Hawaiian whale watching right from their seats. Through multi-media, we sail out of the harbor and into the open ocean. Along the way we find sea creatures, encounter dolphins, then spot behaviors of great whales. A lifesize whale tail appears! We hear songs of humpback males. Actual whale specimens are available to see and touch. And we have a naturalist on board to explain what we're seeing and answer our questions. We learn about cetacean types, habitat, migration, and feeding behaviors. As we return to the harbor, we sing a song or two accompanied by a ukulele.

If a gym or 45 x 20 foot room is available, scouts can go inside of a LIFE SIZE INFLATABLE HUMPBACK WHALE!!

We add DISCOVERY CENTERS to fulfill some requirements of the MARINE ANIMALS BADGES for both Juniors and Brownies.

Over 75,000 children have enjoyed the VIRTUAL WHALE WATCH since 2001!

BACKGROUND: For over twenty years my parents photographed whales and served as research assistants for The Center for Whale Studies in Maui. At age 90+, my mother still photographs whales from boats for three months of the year. I have been teaching children in various capacities for many years and have logged over 1200 whale watch and research outings in Hawaii, New England, California, and New Jersey. Professional affiliations have included: The Center for Whale Studies, National Marine Educators Association, Society for Marine Mammalogy. I have up-to-date PA clearances for working with children.

COST:
We do scout programs during afternoons or Saturdays.
(Up to 40 scouts per 90 minute program.) $5 per scout.

A travel expense may apply outside southeastern PA.
A $50 fee will be added for facilities with more than 6 steps and no elevator.
